PUEBLA
Located
in the central part of Mexico is a city called Puebla.
Dominated by mountain ranges and massive volcanoes to
include Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl, the region boasts
incredible fertile cropland, lakes, rivers, springs, and
reservoirs.
At one time, this region was the home of the Toltec,
Chichimec, and Xicalanca Olmec Indians.
Then around the 10th century, the Nahua
groups had arrived.
However, by the 15th century, Mexica took
over most of the area that we now know as Puebla.
The
finest baroque city was influenced by Spanish conquerors,
which was Puebla de los Angees.
Although there are many beautiful places in Mexico,
this is considered a jewel.
The Spanish also influenced the handiwork and
artisanship seen as famous Talavera ceramics, as well as
food, which is a unique blending of Indian and Spanish
styles. Because
of this perfect blend, the food in Puebla is most
definitnely the most succulent in all of Mexico.
When
it comes to the preservation of traditions and wealth
associated to the Colonial era, Puebla is the best place.
You can see colonial styles in buildings, churches,
and even streets throughout the city.
The interesting thing about Puebla is that it is
believed this city was designed by angels.
With deep-rooted religion, this city is proud and
well preserved.
For instance, you can enjoy the colonial archways,
facades, make your way through patios and plazas, or spend
time in any num ber of museums that provide a closeup look
into the past.
Of
course, if you want to buy Talavera pottery, this is the
place to find incredible pieces.
Other favorites in Puebla include confectionary,
antiques, and shopping.
You will also find a number of pre-Hispanic
settlements in Puebla.
Even so, modern day Puebla is actually very
industrialized.
Although you can enjoy the historic downtown area,
with all its elegance and charm, there is the modern aspect
of the city as well.
Because of this, Puebla is a favorite destination for
people around the globe.
You
will find many wonderful things to do and see while in
Puebla such as Texcal Cave, which is not far from Lake
Valesquillo, which was first populated around 7000 BC.
In addition, there is the Tenapa Pyramid located in
Cholula.
The base of this particular pyramid is 1,315 feet,
which makes it one of the largest pre-Columbian structures
the Americas.
Another great place to visit is in the nearby state
of Tlaxcala.
There, you can see the incredible polychrome murals
found in the fortress of Cacaxtla.
